Art & Craft Show FAQs

  1. How much space are artists allowed for their displays?
We're very open to as much space and you'd like based on a first-come first-serve basis. Typically, artists use one or two folding tables and one or two chairs. Groups (guilds and clubs) usually have more space. The nursery is about 2 acres so there are lots of spots to choose from, we do ask that you visit 2-3 weeks before the event to "get the lay of the land" and choose your spot.

  2. Is there shade?
There are half a dozen shade spots available--some of which change throughout the day. Many artists choose to bring an EZ-up or umbrella.

  3. Can I pull my car up to my space?
It depends on the spot--certain spots allow for this (those near the back driveway and near the parking log), others do not. We do have carts available for those needing to transport items.

  4. What about parking? Where do I park?
We respectfully request that after you set up, you park in on street-side parking East, South or North of the nursery. We expect to have a secure, off-site parking lot with shuttle service for future events.

  5. What has attendance been like in past years?
We typically have anywhere from 100 to 300 people throughout the day. This is a substantial range, but we work VERY hard to get the word out. We also find that if each artist helps us promote the event to their network, we reach a maximum amount of patrons.

  6. How do you advertise?
In addition to in-store advertising at City Farmers Nursery and Nate's Cafe, we reach out to our mailing list of over 700 people through a four-stage notification system. We post fliers at over 60 locations city-wide which include coffee shops, libraries, community centers, shopping centers, artist guilds and local restaurants. We use print advertising in the San Diego Union Tribune, The San Diego Reader, and local neighborhood newsletters (Azalea Park, Oak Park, Swan Canyon).

Our digital advertising includes our website www.CityFarmersNursery.com, our eNewsletter "The City Farmer", and event bulletin-board sites like Craigslist and Backpage.com. Also, we send out advanced notice and day-of press releases to local tv stations (Fox-6, NBC-7/39, CBS-8, KUSI-9/51, ABC-10 and PBS-11/15).

We enthusiastically appreciate insight. If you have additional marketing opportunities or suggestions, please contact us at marketing (at) cityfarmersnursery (dot) com.

  7. Are there any "rules" for your event?
Besides signing a photo release and liability waiver, we require that you visit the nursery 2-3 weeks before the event to "get a lay of the land" and secure your spot for the event on our map. We also ask that you help us promote to your network of friends, family and coworkers. The more people who know about this, the better! Also, we ask that you carpool as much as possible.

  8. Why should I do this show?
Besides reaching a new client base in a beautiful, fun surrounding, Art in the Garden & our Fall Harvest Art and Craft Show bring together all types of people from different walks of life who enjoy gardening and the arts. This is a uniquely no-cost event for all parties and is an excellent low-stress way to display your art with people who are excited to see and meet you and purchase your unique products. Even if you decide not to participate in an upcoming event, consider visiting any time to see what City Farmers Nursery is all about. You can read about our other events Here.

  9. What else do I need to know?
The event is free to the public and free to vendors. We don't take a % or a cut. All we ask is that you help promote the event to your network of friends's family and co-workers. We're San Diego's largest organic nursery and are family owned and operated and are in our 36th year of business serving San Diego. Our events are a way for us to unite our community and give back through nature, beauty and craft.

If you have any more questions, feel free to call the nursery at (619) 284-6358 to speak with someone directly. Additional email inquiries can be directed to events (at) cityfarmersnursery (dot) com.
