Native Plant Seed Packets
Starting native plants from seed is something we’re excited to bring your way, helping you cover more ground, especially when you are working with larger beds, slopes, and hillside areas. Seeds make it easier to create a fuller planting palette, fill open space naturally, and support pollinators with a wider mix of blooms over time 🌱
Native seeds are especially helpful when you want plants that bring a strong fabric to your soil and establish across broad areas instead of leaving bare patches. That makes them a practical choice for erosion-prone spots, hillside projects, and pollinator-friendly plantings where a natural look is the goal 🌼 We like the idea of seed because of the cost efficiency.
We’re bringing 14 packets in, and here are just a few to give you an idea of the range and beauty.
Cirsium occidentale ssp. californicum (California Thistle)
Butterflies, bees, and other pollinators cannot get enough of these blooms. This annual has large pink flowers that bloom from April through July, and it should not become overly weedy or invasive when it is growing with other plants around it.
Penstemon spectabilis (Showy Penstemon)
This spectacular penstemon has stunning wide purple, tube-like flowers. It is a favorite among many pollinators, including hummingbirds, and a little occasional water can help extend the bloom season.
Layia platyglossa (Tidy Tips)
A native annual in the aster family, Tidy Tips attracts many insects, especially butterflies. It is also an important nectar plant for Checkerspot butterflies.
Clarkia purpurea (Purple Clarkia)
A widespread California wildflower with beautiful burgundy blooms in spring through early summer. It works well in butterfly gardens and also makes a lovely cut flower.
Other seed varieties include California Plantain, Royal Goldfields, Wild Blue Flax, Chia, Common Phacelia, California Everlasting, and Scarlet Bugler.
We are always looking for cost-effective ways to meet your goals, while supporting ethical local suppliers and staying mindful of the balance between beauty, ecology, and helpful choices 🌿
