Join us for a community-driven book collection benefiting Books Thru Bars, whose San Diego Chapter is run by students and encourages literacy for all.
What they do: “We are a prison book collective that resists book censorship. We provide free reading materials to incarcerated folks who write to us from across the country. Books Thru Bars is 100% mutual aid supported by community donations and volunteers.”

Location: City Farmers Nursery, 3110 Euclid Ave. San Diego, CA
What to Donate: BTB receives requests for softcover books in the following hard-to-fill genres:
Dictionaries and thesauruses
Almanacs
Puzzles like crosswords, word search, and sudoku
Manga, comic books, graphic novels
Books they cannot accept:
Hardcover books and books with metal or spiral-bound
Books depicting explicit nudity
Books with heavy notes or underlining
Heavily worn, torn, or moldy books
Outdated/obsolete technology books
And, of course, books advocating racial animosity, sexism, or homophobia
