Mosquito ecology and diversity in San Diego
Join local researcher Natalie Castillo as she returns to explore mosquito ecology.
There are about 3,500 species of described mosquitoes worldwide but only some species are responsible for human mosquito-borne diseases.
In California, there are 53 described species and can be found from coastal saltwater marshes to the Sierra Nevada.
In this class Natalie Castillo will describe biological adaptations that are unique to mosquitoes, mosquito diversity and ecology in California, and what mosquitoes are found in San Diego. Learning about their ecology can bring awareness of what habitats promote mosquito abundance around us.
