Late Spring 2025 Chick Breeds

Each year, when conditions are safe, we bring in chickens, in limited quantities. Here are the breeds we’re looking forward to welcoming.

  • After arriving, we keep our chicks to ensure everyone is healthy and stable to go home.

  • Chicks are sexed and vaccinated.

  • We ask that you remember chickens are social creatures and should be in flocks of minimum three birds.

  • As you integrate chicks into flocks, please do so safely.

  • We limit 4 chick purchases per person (in total). We ask that you respect this policy.

Without further delay, here are our chicken breeds and one turkey breed we’ll bring in. This will be our final order of the year (we will look towards next March for our spring flock).

Speckled Sussex

Looking to add a bit of sparkle to your flock? The Speckled Sussex is a charming heritage breed with richly colored mahogany feathers flecked in white, and a personality as sweet as it is social.

These curious and gentle birds are talkative, easy to handle, and fantastic for families. Hens weigh in around 6 lbs, while roosters can reach 8 lbs.

They lay medium to large light brown eggs with reliable consistency. Their friendly nature means they often follow you around the garden like feathered little puppies.

Why you’ll love them: Great foragers, gentle with kids, and strikingly beautiful year-round—this breed is equal parts pet and egg-layer.

Easter Egger

Always wanted a rainbow egg basket? Easter Eggers deliver! With eggs ranging in shades of blue, green, and sometimes even pink, each hen is a walking mystery box. Weighing about 4–5 lbs at maturity, they’re a smaller dual-purpose bird with a big personality.

Docile and friendly, these birds are inquisitive without being pushy, and they tend to get along well in mixed flocks.

Their feathering and colors vary wildly—no two are the same—which makes them not only fun to watch grow, but a beautiful addition to any backyard.

Why you’ll love them: Unique egg colors, quirky looks, and lovable personalities make Easter Eggers a favorite for kids and first-time chicken keepers alike.

Light Brahma

The Feather-Footed Gentle Giant

Graceful and enormous with feathered legs and a calm presence, the Light Brahma is the gentle giant of the chicken world.

Hens typically weigh about 9.5 lbs and roosters up to a solid 12 lbs. Despite their size, they’re famously sweet and mellow, making them great companions in any flock.

These cold-hardy birds lay medium to large brown eggs, and continue producing even in the chill of winter.

Their thick plumage and slow, deliberate mannerisms give them a stately appearance, and they love a cozy dust bath in the garden.

Why you’ll love them: Low-key, cuddly, and cold-resistant—Light Brahmas bring a big heart and fluffy feet to your backyard flock.

Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey

If you’re looking for a fast-growing, feed-efficient turkey for the holiday table—or just a big, friendly bird to raise—Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys are the classic American choice.

Toms can reach 25–38 lbs, and hens range from 14–20 lbs, making them one of the heaviest meat breeds available.

They have a calm, approachable nature and adapt well to backyard environments if provided space to roam.

While not ideal for natural reproduction due to their size, they’re excellent for short-term seasonal raising or as an educational pet project.

Why you’ll love them: Gorgeous iridescent plumage, mellow personalities, and a strong heritage make these turkeys a memorable addition to any homestead or backyard adventure.
