Compost Basics

Curious about turning kitchen scraps and yard waste into garden gold? Join us for Composting 101! We’ll cover the basics of composting at home, from choosing the right bin to balancing greens and browns, troubleshooting odors, and harvesting finished compost. Whether you’re new to composting or want to boost your soil health, this class will help you create nutrient-rich compost for thriving plants.

Since 1972, we've focused on simple growing methods, time-tested advice, and locally-grown plants.

We'd love to invite you down to our open-air canyon classroom for a fun morning of casual learning.

We kindly ask that if you take advantage of a free class, and if mobility allows, that you consider finding street parking on Altadena Ave and walk over, keeping our parking lot open. You can pop by our "Loading Zone" afterwards for easy parking-free loading!
